Promising new developments in treatment of neuroblastoma using mice in a research study. http://childrensnational.org/news-and-events/childrens-newsroom/2015/childrens-national-finds-neuroblastoma-tumor-cure-in-mice-studies Any advancements in neuroblastoma research are welcome, but these findings are a bit unsettleing for me. To come to the possible conclusion that GCSF, as part of a Standard Protocol in treatment, may be doing more harm than good, adds to the already plentiful "What Ifs" about decisions made regarding Darrel years ago. Of course I know the choices made were the best we could do from the options available at the time, but the lingering doubts that more could have been done never really go away. Taken from Our Friends at Neuroblastoma Australia: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/845310 The FDA in the United States has recently approved the drug Unituxin in the treatment of high risk neuroblastoma. While there are many side effects, the progress thus far is promising.

This video was filmed during the James Fund Neuroblastoma Family Retreat in Rosseau, Canada, September 21, 2013. Dr. Irwin was Darrel's doctor while he was at SickKids. Recent Post from our friends at Neuroblastoma Canada on strategies for relapsed neuroblastoma. One of the authors of the original study, Dr. Meredith Irwin, treated Darrel while he was at SickKids in Toronto.
http://neuroblastoma.ca/blog/relapse/current-and-future-strategies-for-relapsed-neuroblastoma/ The James Fund has recently launched the Kyle Wells Project, looking at neuroblastoma through tests involving mice. Darrel and Kyle went through their early treatments together at SickKids in Toronto.
http://www.jamesfund.com/blog/the-kyle-wellsjames-fund-project The James Fund is assisting a young Peterborough researcher in a different approach to cancer cells killing themselves. St. Baldrick's Researcher, Dr. Asgharzadeh has discovered the presence of immune cells called “macrophages” within cancerous pediatric tumors, and continues to examine the importance of the 'tumor microenvironment' in the developments of new treatments for neuroblastoma.
